History of the Medical Kit
The birth of the Pediatric Medical Travel Kit (formerly known as the Texas Medical Kit)
was in 1995 after one of our local families returned from China with a child who was hospitalized immediately for a very serious infection
that threatened her life. When We realized that an eight dollar bottle of antibiotics could have prevented this from happening we began
to work on the medical kit.
Having traveled extensively in Third World Countries, seeing the conditions and care of the children
in orphanages, and knowing the lack of availability of many medications commonly used in the United States for infections, the kit was
designed as a short term “survival kit” to try to cover conditions and infections commonly seen in children adopted from these countries.
It is not meant to replace your personal physician in any way. A good portion of the kit is devoted to education for first
time parents.
When we designed the kit in 1995, thinking it would only be used by our local families, we had no idea of the widespread need and requests
for the kit. Over the years we have had a multitude if feedback from families who have used the kit and the difference that it made for them and
their children while in the country of origin of the child.
ALL proceeds from the sale of the Medical Travel Kit goes toward humanitarian aid projects in orphanages and medical sponsorship of children | |
